Prescription GLP-1 medications must be prescribed by a practitioner who has lawful prescribing authority for the medication and is operating within their Florida scope and practice structure. Depending on the clinic, that may be a physician, an appropriately authorized APRN, or an appropriately supervised/delegated PA. Do not assume every clinical employee can prescribe.
Florida §464.012 authorizes APRNs to prescribe drugs within the applicable practice framework. Some APRNs practice under an established protocol; qualifying autonomous APRNs may practice under §464.0123. Confirm which model your APRN operates under.
Florida §458.347 allows a supervising physician to delegate prescribing authority to a fully licensed PA, subject to the statutory requirements. The delegation and supervision framework must actually be in place.
An RN may administer medications and treatments when properly prescribed or authorized, but professional nursing does not itself create independent prescribing authority.
