Before hiring an AHCA Medical Director, verify far more than an active license. A clinic owner should confirm the physician actually qualifies for the specific director role, understands the statutory responsibilities, and can describe — concretely — how they will perform and document chart review, credentialing, billing oversight, escalation, survey participation, and transition. A physician who says “you only need my license” has answered the most important question the wrong way.
Confirm an active Florida license through the Department of Health, check for restrictions or relevant disciplinary history, and confirm the candidate qualifies for the Medical Director or Clinic Director role that actually applies to your clinic type.

The candidate should accept the role in writing as real responsibility, not a license number — and the agreement should address notice, resignation, transition, records, outstanding corrective actions, survey cooperation, and change reporting before you ever need them.
