There is no single universal “weight-loss clinic license” in Florida. What you need depends on who owns the business, which services you offer, who evaluates and prescribes, how medications are obtained or dispensed, whether you fall under Florida’s Health Care Clinic Act, and your location. Treat startup compliance as several separate layers, not one permit.
The business needs the ordinary entity, tax, zoning, occupancy, and local requirements for its location. These are business-operational items and are separate from professional medical licensure. Register the entity (Sunbiz) and handle local permitting first.
A clinic license does not replace the licenses of the people practicing there. Know exactly who evaluates patients, diagnoses, prescribes, administers medications, and provides nursing services — and confirm each person is operating inside their own Florida scope.
Florida’s Health Care Clinic Act defines “clinic” broadly, then creates exclusions. Determine early whether the business requires AHCA Health Care Clinic licensure, falls outside the definition, or qualifies for a Certificate of Exemption.
