Distinguish medication held for administration, medication dispensed to a patient, patient-specific pharmacy products, compounded sterile preparations, and any office-use inventory pathway — each has different requirements.
Who owns the medication before administration? Was it dispensed to a named patient? Is the clinic administering or dispensing? Is the product commercially manufactured or compounded? What storage does the label require? Who has access? How are lot and expiration data tracked, and how are recalls handled?
Define the medication pathway before building inventory around it. Confirm dispensing-practitioner requirements (§465.0276) with counsel if you dispense.
