Do not choose a pharmacy only by price, turnaround time, or a sales rep’s promise. Verify the pharmacy’s legal status, product pathway, labeling, shipping controls, communication process, and how it handles recalls or quality issues. The pharmacy relationship is part of your patient-safety and governance system — not just a vendor contract.
Is the pharmacy licensed where required? Is it a state-licensed pharmacy under §503A, a registered §503B outsourcing facility, or another lawful pathway? What exact product, concentration, and labeling are supplied? How is refrigerated product shipped — and what happens if it arrives warm? How are recalls communicated and lots verified? What patient-specific documentation is required?
FDA maintains a current list of registered §503B outsourcing facilities. Registration alone does not make every product lawful or appropriate — you still need to understand what product you’re receiving and under what framework.
Your pharmacy is part of the clinic’s governance system. Document who they are, what they supply, and how quality issues are handled — and confirm the arrangement with counsel and your supervising physician.
