An RN can perform professional nursing functions within Florida scope and may administer properly prescribed medications or treatments — including testosterone injections under an appropriate order. An RN license does not create independent prescribing authority or authority to independently alter a patient’s hormone prescription.

What separates RN functions from prescriber functions in an HRT clinic?
RN functions may include nursing assessment, patient education, injections under appropriate orders, monitoring, documentation, and escalation. Prescriber functions include diagnosis, prescribing, changing the medication/dose, and individualized therapeutic decisions requiring prescriptive authority.
